Two-day course in crafting ancestral South American ceramics
Join Amelia in her studio with visiting artist Ayelen Van Humbeeck (@lumbre_ceramik) for a two day pottery workshop learning ancestral South American ceramic techniques.
Day 1:
Thursday August 7th 4.30pm-7:30pm
We will create cups and bowls using hand-building techniques, including our heads, knees and nails. We’ll learn how to decorate the objects with incisions and applications of clay. Finally, we burnish them with stones and leave them to dry.
Day 2: Saturday August 9th 2pm-5pm
Together, we will construct a temporary brick kiln. We’ll fire our handiwork with charcoal. Then, we have an opportunity to pattern the white-hot objects with yerba mate (used in a traditional tea) and sawdust. Finally, we waterproof the cups and bowls with beeswax.
All materials for the workshop are included.
Early bird tickets are £95 until the 31st of July and then will go up to £115 from the 1st of August.
A minimum of 5 people have to sign up for the workshop to go ahead.
